This extremely rare Record Datofix was made for the Middle Eastern market in the early 1950s. The original dial signed “Record Geneve Datofix” in Arabic, also features Hindu-Arabic numerals for the hour markers and surrounding date calendar. The inner day and month apertures are displayed in Arabic and also features a subsidiary seconds and moonphase aperture. The dial remains in very good original condition with only small signs of age. The 33mm diameter case is gold plated with stainless steel screw back and waterproof style pushers. The case is in excellent condition with some tarnishing due to occasional use. The watch is powered by its original 17 Jewel manual wind cal. 107 movement signed Record W. Co. Geneve and is in full working order.

Record watches from the 1940s and 50s are held in high regard by watch collectors. Their quality and in-house movements at the time competed with some of the very best watchmakers from the period. Record Watch Company was founded in Tramelan, Switzerland in 1903 and later moved its headquarters to Geneva in 1924. In 1961, Longines acquired a majority interest in the Record Watch Company which shows how highly the company was regarded by the industry.

During the late 1940s, Record were one of a small group of watch manufacturers that included Audemars Piguet, Vacheron Constantin, Omega and Jaeger-LeCoultre, to have developed their own in-house movement calibre with the combined complications of day/date/month/moon indication. The ‘Datofix’ model was released by Record in 1949. They exhibited their calendar watches with moon-phases at the Basel Watch Fair in both 1949 and 1950.
