DETAILS

Large size Cartier London Baignoire from 1972.

Cartier London watches are rare, and this example is no exception. One of less than 6 pieces known, this Cartier Baignoire originating from Cartier’s London workshop, has unique proportions and sizing that make it very different to the ones produced in Paris and also New York. Firstly the larger size case being 36mm by 23mm. This is considerably larger than the Baignoire watches made in Paris. Secondly the dial design. Connoisseurs will recognise straight away that is a London workshop piece due to the “exploding” or oversized elongated Roman numerals.

The original cal. K840 manual wind movement supplied by LeCoultre Co. is numbered correctly and fits into a small batch of movements that were fitted into the Cartier London Crash and Cintree watches from this period. The case is numbered with four digits and matches with the numbers on the original gold deployment clasp. The case and clasp are also hallmarked London 1972.

Cartier London pieces very sought-after and in recent years prices have increased in value rapidly together with the interest and demand. Rare doesn’t really describe these watches well, as they were only produced in very small batches of 3 at a time on by request. These watches were sold exclusively through their flagship London store of which many ended up on the wrist of celebrities

Overall this is an extremely rare Cartier watch. Other known examples belong to well known connoisseurs and important collectors. We are extremely excited to offer this piece for direct sale.
