STORY BEHIND
The King Midas was introduced in 1962 as a limited run before becoming a staple model in the Cellini series. Designed by a young Gérald Genta, the watch was inspired by the Greek Pantheon (Temple of Gods) with the triangular tip resembling the temple roof. Continuing the Greek Mythology the original model was given the name ‘King Midas’ honoring the myth that everything he touched with his left hand turned to gold. The left hand part is important as it was the inspiration to fit the crown on the left of the case.
